From Our Ancestors to Our Classrooms:
This dinner coincided with Nowruz, the Persian New Year, which aligns with the vernal equinox and symbolizes the renewal of the year and the arrival of spring. Nowruz is often celebrated by cleaning house, making room for new energies and experiences.
A Nowruz Dialogue for Educators
During our gathering, we hope to explore our motivations for becoming educators and acknowledge the influence of our ancestors, role models, and personal experiences on our teaching practices. Teaching often prompts reflection on our own educational journeys and childhoods, as we guide our students through theirs.
Through conversations at this dinner, we aim to understand the generational and personal factors that led us to become teachers.

I sometimes forget
that I was created for Joy.
My mind is too busy.
My Heart is too heavy
for me to remember
that I have been
called to dance
the Sacred dance of life.
I was created to smile
To Love
To be lifted up
And to lift others up.
O’ Sacred One
Untangle my feet
from all that ensnares.
Free my soul.
That we might
Dance
and that our dancing
might be contagious.
